Community comes together for campus barbecue

The campus community barbecue brings people together, kinesiology student Joanna Nguyen said Thursday as shared her lunchtime with friends on the lawn outside Chrysler Hall.

“I like it,” she said. “The food is good, the weather is great, and it’s just a nice time for everyone.”

The free event, sponsored by the Office of the President, served thousands of hotdogs and more to students, staff and faculty on Turtle Island Walk.

Maria Diakantoniou, a master’s student of English, said she particularly enjoyed the music by the Lancer Band, which played original arrangements of pop hits.

“It’s really cool that it’s recognizable songs,” she said. “I keep finding myself singing along!”

Annie Semaan, a student of health and biomedical sciences, said the food was so good she went back for seconds.

“I had a chicken dog and the beef hotdog,” said Semaan. “They were both amazing.”
