Lecture to explore trauma-informed approaches in kinesiology

The co-author of a book on adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse will discuss a trauma-informed approach to kinesiology in a free public lecture September 30 in the Human Kinetics Building.

Candice Schachter, an adjunct professor at the University of Saskatchewan’s School of Physical Therapy, volunteered for the Sexual Assault Crisis Ventre while studying for her MHK in Windsor.

She was the principal investigator of the Sensitive Practice Project, aimed at generating research-based guidelines to assist health care providers to work more effectively with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, and co-authored The Handbook on Sensitive Practice for Health Care Practitioners: Lessons from Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse.

Dr. Schachter’s lecture “A Trauma-informed Approach in Kinesiology: From Classes to Coaching to Athletic Therapy” will run noon to 1 p.m. Friday in room 144, Human Kinetics Building.
