Recital to continue pianist’s exploration of Beethoven sonatas

Music professor Philip Adamson will continue his exploration of piano sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven, performing four in recital Saturday in Assumption Hall’s Heritage Auditorium.

Dr. Adamson will play the Yamaha CFX concert grand piano, new to the School of Creative Arts through an anonymous donation.

Beethoven wrote 32 piano sonatas, which Adamson calls “a great treasure that embodies a part of the human eternity.” Earlier this year, he embarked on a mission to perform all of them.

Saturday’s program will feature:

  • Sonata in C minor, Op.10, No.1;
  • Sonata in B flat major, Op.22;
  • Sonata in F sharp major, Op.78; and
  • Sonata in E flat major, Op.81a.
