Class of 1961 honoured for decades of University support

Members of the Bachelor of Commerce Class of 1961, led by long-time donor, professor emeritus, and UWindsor supporter Dave Wilson, gathered on campus Wednesday evening with president Douglas Kneale, dean of business Mitchell Fields, and other friends to reminisce and view a donor plaque recognizing their gift to the H. Allan Conway Student Catalyst and Innovation Fund at the Odette School of Business.

The Conway fund, named to honour the past Odette School of Business dean, is designed to support scholarships, new student initiatives, student clubs, and academic competitions in the faculty. The Class of 1961 is well-known for its contributions and support over nearly six decades.

“Encouraging others to support worthy causes and the private satisfaction of doing so is all the reward a donor needs,” Wilson said. “Some 57 years after our graduation, our BComm Class of ’61 continues to feel rewarded for playing a part in the University’s evolution into the ranking recently reported in the Huffington Post — the foremost of the five rising stars of Canadian universities.”

Dr. Fields noted the business school is deeply appreciative of the generosity of its alumni.

“At Odette we know first-hand the power of peer-to-peer influence,” he said. “The Class of ’61 has shown outstanding leadership through their class gift in support of our students.”
