Internships offer hands-on experience and develop transferable skills, says Hana Samson.
She was excited to learn about the chance to complete an internship while pursuing a master’s degree in political science during the Graduate Studies Showcase, Thursday in the student centre.
“Actual field work is invaluable in my mind,” said Samson, a fourth-year student of international relations. “It also creates connections after you graduate.”
She was glad for the opportunity to speak with the department’s graduate chair, Jesse Salah Ovadia.
“Graduate studies is one option for the next stage of my life,” Samson said. “It’s good to get information on what is available and what is required.”
The annual showcase event brings representatives from each of the University’s graduate programs to meet face-to-face with students to discussion admission procedures, career opportunities, scholarships and other funding support.
Dr. Ovadia said the showcase was well-timed.
“It gives us another chance to reach out to our students around the time they might be thinking about next steps,” he said. “More students are considering grad studies because of the job climate right now.”
The event was hosted by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, home to more than 70 master’s and doctoral programs.
