Conference to offer info on legal careers

A panel will discuss hot topics in law to open the “Justice at Work” conference, Jan. 16 on the UWindsor campus.

Conference attendees will explore public-interest careers during the day-long event.

The morning discussion will feature panelists:

  • David Estrin, Environmental Justice and Sustainability Clinic and Gowling WLG, on climate change;
  • Windsor Law alumna Asha James (JD 2008), Falconers LLP, on race and policing;
  • Deepa Mattoo, Barbra Schlifer Clinic, on supporting survivors of gender-based violence; and
  • Lisa Sharp, Ottawa Fertility Law and Sharp Family Law, on reproductive justice for LGBTQ2S clients.

Keynote speaker Jacqueline Swaisland of Waldman & Associates is a co-founder and the Toronto co-ordinator of the Refugee Sponsorship Support Program, which has trained more than 1,300 lawyers in 11 cities to provide free assistance to groups in filling out applications to sponsor refugees. In a lunchtime session, she will offer career advice for working on migration issues.
