Winner claims prize with Oz-some door decor

Following the yellow brick road led Maureen Mcclary to victory in the UWin Proud office door decorating contest.

Mcclary, secretary to the associate deans in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, impressed judges with a Wizard of Oz-themed design to claim a catered coffee break for her department.

It’s an appropriate prize for a team effort, she says.

“There was always somebody coming by with suggestions for things I could add to the display,” she says.

The competition helped her to meet new co-workers, since she has only been in the position for a couple of weeks.

Besides a depiction of Lancer mascot Winston heading up a yellow brick road toward a golden Dillon Hall, her door bears the heading “There’s no place like UWindsor.”

Mcclary beat out more than 20 competitors and says she was glad to see so many people participated.

“It was a great way to deal with the January blahs,” she says. “I think silliness and fun have to be part of every day.”

Honourable mentions went to the grad studies office for an Oscars-themed entry, residence services for decorating a corridor of six doors, and nursing professor Brenda Mclaughlin for her spirited Lancer. Find photos of all the entries on the contest website.
