Lecture to consider conflict resolution in crowded world

Keith Hipel, a systems design engineering professor at the University of Waterloo awarded the 2018 Miroslaw Romanowski Medal, will deliver a free public lecture Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the University of Windsor.

Dr. Hipel will discuss the design, capabilities, and historical development of the Graph Model for Conflict Resolution in relation to a range of complex real-world conflict situations. His presentation — 1 p.m. in room 1100 in the Ed Lumley Centre for Engineering Innovation — will highlight opportunities for meaningful future expansions within an era of artificial intelligence and intensifying conflict in an over-crowded world.

The Royal Society of Canada awards the Miroslaw Romanowski Medal for significant contributions to the resolution of scientific aspects of environmental problems or for important improvements to the quality of an ecosystem. The recipient also delivers a series of lectures across the country.

Hipel is former president of the Academy of Science within the Royal Society of Canada, senior fellow of the Centre for International Governance Innovation, fellow of the Balsillie School of International Affairs, and past-chair of the Board of Governors of Renison University College.

An abstract of his presentation, “The Graph Model for Conflict Resolution: Reflections on Three Decades of Development,” is available on the UWindsor Engineering website.
