Placements provide professional experience for comm studies major

Braunte Petric, a fourth-year student of communication, media and film, completed three internships as a way to make the leap from critical theory and film production to practical experience, industry know-how, and strong professional networks.

“What are my talents? Did I want to work in an office? What was I good at? The only way for me to truly know the answers to these questions would be to go out and work in different fields,” she said.

Pursuing an internship for course credit made the process easy, said Petric: “It’s just like having a job, except you’re only in four demanding courses instead of five.”

She described her experience for Hellene Meyer, a peer advisor in the Office of Career Development and Experiential Learning. Read the entire success story on its website.
