Event to provide welcome for students from Bangladesh

Organizers of an event to welcome new students from Bangladesh hope to attract more than 200 UWindsor students and alumni on Saturday, Sept. 28.

The Bangladesh Windsor Student Association provides a soft landing for newcomers — help finding housing, greeting arrivals, and getting them involved with campus and community life.

Saturday’s event runs 6 to 9 p.m. in the Alumni Auditorium, CAW Student Centre.

It’s the first in a series of activities planned by the association’s president, Tara Das.

“The most important issue is to get students involved,” he says. “We want to reach out and form partnerships with other groups on campus and in the city.”

Das says he hopes to encourage members to participate in blood donation drives, cultural and sporting events, and especially environmental projects.

“We come from a part of the world that has been very affected by climate change,” he notes.
