Strategic Mandate Agreement submitted to province

The University of Windsor’s Strategic Mandate Agreement has received unanimous approval from the Board of Governors as well as unanimous support from Senate.

The University’s agreement with the Government of Ontario, SMA3 establishes the University’s performance metrics and targets. Beginning in 2020, approximately $23 million of its provincial grant will be tied to meeting these annual performance targets. By 2024-25, that amount will increase to nearly $56 million.

“We have undertaken a strongly consultative process in developing the SMA3, and input from across campus has been instrumental,” said associate vice-president academic Jeff Berryman, a member of the team who led the development of the agreement.

The finalized draft has been submitted to the Ministry of Colleges and Universities, and final documents will be ready for signature by March 31.

“SMA3 is an accountability agreement with Ontario designed to measure the University’s performance on certain government-identified metrics,” said provost Douglas Kneale. “As a publicly-funded institution, the University of Windsor embraces accountability and transparency, and has worked hard to negotiate an agreement that will allow us to fulfill our academic mission and preserve our performance-based funding.

“I want to thank all those across our campus and community who played a role in the SMA3 process, including everyone who attended the town halls to learn and contribute to the outcome.”
