Turning 30 years old marks a milestone for the Humanities Research Group, and it invites everyone to help celebrate on Friday, Nov. 15, at 4 p.m. at the Green Bean Cafe, 2330 Wyandotte St. West.

The group offers inspiring and engaging conversations about understanding ourselves and the world around us. Its goal is to bring thinkers and audience members together for a stimulating and open dialogue.

The event will have food, drinks, music, and will see the awarding of the $5,000 prize to the winner of the Why Humanities? contest. For more information, visit the event website.

Advance tickets are now on sale for the Great Faculty Soup-off, a fundraiser for the campus campaign for United Way, Tuesday, Nov. 26, in the CAW Student Centre Commons.

Staff, faculty, and students who buy admission for just $8 will sample eight soups and vote for their favourite — each sponsored by a faculty:

November is Canada Career Month, and the team in Career Development & Experiential Learning (CDEL), a department of the Office of Experiential Learning, is celebrating.

Any student who attends the peer career advising drop-in hours or a career development workshop during the month of November will automatically be entered into a draw for one of two $50 giftcards to the Campus Bookstore. For faculty and staff interested in joining in the celebration, CDEL will lead a professional development workshop entitled “Supporting the Career Development of UWindsor Students” at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21. Participants will learn about approaches to career development, common challenges, and key messaging for facilitating meaningful career conversations with students. Canada Career Month is a nationwide celebration of careers that takes place every November to advance the agenda of improving access to services and education so that Canadians are better prepared to develop their careers and transition into the labour market.

Libraries on campus will extend their hours of operation during exams.

For the weekends of Nov. 15 to 17 and 22 to 24, the Paul Martin Law Library will open Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:50 p.m., Saturdays 11 a.m. to 5:50 p.m., and Sundays from 1 to 10:50 p.m.

For the weekends of Nov. 29 to Dec. 1, Dec. 6 to 8 and 13 to 15, the law library will be open Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 10:50 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 10:50 p.m.

For the remainder of the month until Jan. 5, library hours will be:

• Monday to Wednesday, Dec. 16 to 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:50 p.m.
• Thursday and Friday, Dec. 19 and 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:50 p.m.
• closed Dec. 21 and 22
• Monday, Dec. 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:20 p.m.
• closed Dec. 24 to Jan. 1

The Leddy Library will open during the exam period for 24 hours, five days a week. From Dec. 4 to 18, the only times the Leddy Library will close is between 2 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

The library will close at midnight on Dec. 19, open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Dec. 20, and be closed on Dec. 21 and 22. The library will reopen on Dec. 23 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and close for the holidays from Dec. 24 to Jan. 1.
