Although achieving top grades in high school was a lot of work, it never felt like a burden, says Chelsea Bastien, “I just like learning and improving myself.”
A senior at Belle River District High School, she was among a select group of high school students whose accomplishments were celebrated Tuesday at the Presidential Scholars reception.
Stops at seven cities through Ontario will provide UWindsor applicants with information about financial aid and scholarship opportunities, as well as what makes Windsor's learning-centred environment distinctive.
The receptions are aimed at applying students and their families. Current students, faculty and staff offer them a chance to learn more about academic programs and student life at the University of Windsor.
Expanded recruiting efforts and a broader provincial profile are just two of the reasons UWindsor has experienced a six per cent increase over last year in applicants selecting UWindsor as their first choice, topping the provincial average increase of two per cent.

It takes hundreds of people from across campus to pull off an event as big as Friday's Fall Open House, said Dave Bussière, assistant provost for admissions and recruiting, but it was worth it.
“We had a great day,” he said as his staff wound day from the event, which brought about 2,000 visitors to the University for tours, academic presentations, and information on programs and admissions.
“We have been so busy – the sessions were full to capacity. We have been getting wonderful feedback.”
Though it may be a more anonymous, behind-the-scenes sort of job, a third-year Windsor law student is looking forward to the opportunity of getting a rare glimpse into the legal decisions made by the highest court in the land.
Alana Longmoore learned earlier this year that beginning next September she’ll start a coveted clerkship at the Supreme Court of Canada in Ottawa, making her only the sixth UWindsor student to secure such a position dating back to 1986 when the Faculty of Law started keeping records.
