Art curatorship subject of discussion

The Art Gallery of Windsor and the UWindsor School of Visual Arts present a talk by David Liss, artistic director of the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, as part of the 2012 Alone + Together Speakers’ Series.

Set for the gallery at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 22, the event is titled “Curating Spaces in Museums and Beyond.”

Lecture to answer questions about teen health

Family physician Joslyn Warwaruk will share her insights into “Everything you wanted to know about teen health” in a free public lecture in room 202, Toldo Health Education Centre, on Tuesday, March 20, at 7 p.m.

Dr. Warwaruk’s practice includes time at the Windsor Teen Health Centre -- working with teen issues including depression, anxiety, sexually transmitted diseases, sports injuries, pregnancies, acne and rashes.

Power shutdown to affect CEI this weekend

Workers will shut down all electricity to Phase 1 of the Centre for Engineering Innovation this weekend.

The power shutdown will affect several lab spaces and the offices of the Windsor-Essex Economic Development Commission from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, March 24 and 25.

UWindsor professor moving on to the rock

UWindsor anthropology professor Lynne Phillips will take up a five-year post as dean of the Faculty of Arts at Memorial University, effective July 1.

Dr. Phillips has been at the University of Windsor since 1989 and served as head of the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology from 2000 to 2007. She said she is “thrilled” to be heading to Memorial, located in St. Johns, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Roll up your sleeves for on-campus blood donor clinic Monday

The most important work you do this week just might involve rolling up your sleeves and lying down on the job. Canadian Blood Services will hold a full blood donor clinic on Monday, March 19, in Ambassador Auditorium in the CAW Student Centre from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

For this clinic, the Canadian Blood Service will use its appointment system. It encourages donors to book appointments by calling 1-888-2DONATE (1-888-236-6283). Walk-in donors are still welcome but appointments will better accommodate donors' working schedules.

Dillon Hall work to close washrooms Friday

Staff from DiMaio Design and JASEL Engineering will conduct measuring of room 364 and all washrooms in Dillon Hall on Friday, March 16, in preparation for proposed renovations in those spaces.

Each washroom will be closed to use while the measurement work is conducted, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Grab-and-go offers fast, healthy options for cafeteria diners

Grab-and-go is good for you, says Paolo Vasapolli, assistant manager of satellite operations for Food Services.

“We are heading toward increasing this concept,” he said Wednesday. “It provides a fresh and healthy meal at an economical price point.”

The Marketplace food court in the CAW Student Centre is increasing the number and range of items available in its Grab-and-go coolers, which feature pre-made sandwiches, salads, fruit drinks and light desserts.

“It’s a spot where students can come in and get something quick that’s still nutritious,” Vasapolli said.

Sunny days: warm weather has students shedding socks
