University Bookstore to stock new version iPads for official launch Friday

The University Bookstore will have the iPad 3 in stock for sale on its official launch date, Friday, March 16.

“We are delighted to be able to announce that,” says marketing manager Martin Deck. “As an authorized campus store for Apple, it is wonderful to be in the position to offer this to our customers as early as anywhere in the world.”

Speaker to address sexual differentiation in spectatorship

Due to an editing error, Wednesday’s DailyNews published the wrong title for a public lecture tonight by Tracy Davis of Northwestern University.

The correct title of her presentation, part of the Humanities Research Group’s Distinguished Speakers Series, is “Spectatorship’s Sexual Differentiation: From Liberal Individualism to Relationalist Subjecthood.” It is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, March 15, in the Freed Orman Centre, Assumption University.

Customers flock to Bookstore bargains

The University Bookstore did a brisk business for its annual overstock sale, Tuesday in the CAW Sudent Centre Commons.

Students, staff and faculty took advantage of discounted prices to stock up on UWindsor apparel and thousands of books as low as 99 cents.

“We’ve had a great turnout and you can see customers are lined up,” said marketing manager Martin Deck.

Jenna Durette, a teacher candidate in the Faculty of Education, was one satisfied customer.

Lecture to suggest mathematical model to consider compromise

People engaging in argument will profit understanding the motivations underlying a disagreement, says Frank Zenker.

A post-doctoral fellow at the Filosofiska institutionen of Sweden’s Lund University, he will explore a mathematical model to determine the limits of debate in his free public lecture, “From Pro/Con to Compromise,” in the seminar room of Parker House, 105 Sunset Avenue, on Wednesday, March 14, at 3 p.m.

Ontario universities welcome extension of provincial tuition framework

The Council of Ontario Universities welcomed an announcement Thursday that the provincial government is extending for one year a cap of five per cent on overall tuition fee increases at its colleges and universities.

COU chair Alastair Summerlee said the move will enable universities to protect the gains that have been made through the government’s major investments in higher education.

Speed dating event to benefit multicultural council

The closure of the student pub has resulted in the relocation of the Speed Dating for Charity event, Tuesday, March 13.

The event, a benefit for the Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County, will begin with registration at 7 p.m. in the CAW Student Centre’s Ambassador Auditorium. Thanks to sponsorship by the Alumni Association, the Organization of Part-time University Students, and the University of Windsor Students’ Alliance, admission is free for UWindsor students.

Student voters reject bus pass proposal

UWindsor students overwhelmingly turned down a proposed universal bus pass that would have seen them pay for Transit Windsor services through their student fees.

In balloting by University of Windsor Students Alliance members Wednesday and Thursday, “no” votes held more than a 2-1 margin.

The University of Windsor Campus Community Police are working closely with Windsor Police Services with their investigation of an altercation originating at the University Pub that resulted in the injury of three young men early Friday morning. The University Pub is now closed until further notice.
