Swashbuckling Three Musketeers adventure to start University Players’ season

University Players will open its season with the adventure-comedy The Three Musketeers, adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas. Playwright Ken Ludwig’s version of the fast-paced and funny classic tale runs from September 23 to October 2 in the Essex Hall Theatre.

The story begins when young d’Artagnan sets out, with his sister in tow, to join the King’s guard. He meets the famous three musketeers and swashbuckles with them through daring quests, action-packed swordfights and heroic rescues. This thrilling and playful adventure is a tale of heroism, treachery and close escapes and above all, honour. It’s all for one and one for all!

This production features staging by director Brian Taylor; the fight choreography of Jamie Treschak, with 27 choreographed fight scenes, including 10 impressive sword fights; sumptuous costume designs by Agatha Knelsen; set designs by master creator David Court; expressive lighting design by guest designer Tristan Tidswell; and the talents of the intensively trained BFA acting students of the School of Dramatic Art.

Wednesday through Saturday performances are at 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. On Sunday, September 25th, a free “Talk Back” discussion with the director and actors will follow the performance. Tickets are available online at www.UniversityPlayers.com or by calling 519-253-3000, ext. 2808.

New bike share program promises to have riders cruising

The Ubike Share program will provide an eco-friendly and inexpensive transportation option for students and other clients, the president of the University of Windsor Students’ Alliance said during a ribbon-cutting event Friday to launch the new service.

“The Ubike will provide value to residence students, international students and those using the downtown campus,” Moussa Hamadani said. “It will invigorate the life experience of the campus.”

The bike share provider Zagster has distributed its cruiser-style cycles—complete with lights, bells and cargo baskets—to eight stations: six on main campus, one at the south campus and one outside the Pitt-Ferry Building.

Riders download the free mobile app to find bikes and may sign up for an annual membership or rent by the hour. Under an annual pass costing $15, all rides less than one hour are free with a charge of $2 per hour beyond that. Non-members may rent for $3 per hour.

Sponsorship by the University of Windsor Alumni Association is a “perfect fit,” board member Beth Ann Prince (BA 1991) said.

“The program offers an efficient way to get to and from our expanding campus,” she said. “It will be an economical way to travel on campus and in the community.”

Find more information, including pricing details, a map of station locations, and the app for iPhone or Android, at zagster.com/ubike.
