EvaThe Tunes for Tanzania benefit concert, February 25 at Mackenzie Hall, will help send Eva to high school.

Concert to help fund education of vulnerable children in Tanzania

Students, faculty and alumni of the School of Creative Arts will lend their talents Saturday to an effort to send orphaned and vulnerable children in Tanzania to school.

Proceeds from the fourth annual Tunes for Tanzania benefit concert will go to that country’s chapter of the Canadian World Education Foundation, founded by alumna Julie Caron (BMus 2007, BSc 2009) with the support of her father, math professor Rick Caron.

Monies raised will be used to send Eva, a young Maasai woman, to vocational school. As the beneficiary of the inaugural concert, she was spared becoming a 16-year-old bride. Eva is now graduating middle school and hopes that the help of the Windsor community will enable her to train as a physician assistant or community health worker.

The concert, developed and organized by UWindsor concert producer Trevor Pittman, will be emceed by Windsor Symphony Orchestra music director Robert Franz and feature performances by the Majestic Brass, UWindsor Chamber Choir, music professor Nicholas Papador, UW Percussionists Vibraphone Quartet, Erin Armstrong, Christina Turing, and the Coffee House Combo. A reception offering a Taste of Tanzania will follow the performances.

The show gets underway at 7:30 p.m. February 25 at the Mackenzie Hall Cultural Centre, 3277 Sandwich Street. Admission at the door is $20, with a student rate of $10. Advance tickets are available at https://windsor.snapd.com/#/events/view/1015497.
