University postpones public opening of downtown SoCA buildings

The University of Windsor is postponing the official public opening of the new home for the School of Creative Arts (SoCA) until the new year. Initially planned for December 1, 2017, the rescheduled opening was necessitated so that all spaces in the new buildings, including the music performance hall, could be fully cleaned for occupancy and use by students, faculty, and staff.

The move of SoCA to the downtown location remains the primary focus so that programs can begin there in January. The University regrets this unexpected delay, and looks forward to welcoming the community to a public opening that will showcase not only the spectacular new facilities, but also the creative work going on within them.

Lunch delivery service December 12 to benefit Alternative Spring Break

Student participants in the 2018 Alternative Spring Break program are prepared to deliver — and they will deliver lunch directly to any office on campus.

About two dozen volunteers are raising funds for a week of social action during Reading Week in February. They have partnered with Catering Services to offer a fresh, hot lunch delivery on Tuesday, December 12.

“We will bring it straight to your door,” says political science major Victoria Mahon. “We are gearing up our golf carts and breaking out the insulated totes to make sure it’s hot from the kitchen when you get it.”

The menu offers four meals:

  • Turkey with gravy, mashed potatoes, and corn;
  • Quarter barbecued chicken with mashed potatoes, and corn;
  • Quarter honey-garlic chicken with mashed potatoes, and corn; or
  • Veggie jambalaya on rice, which is vegan and gluten-free.

Each option costs only $12 + tax, with half the proceeds going to the ASB program.

Place your order no later than December 6 on the ASB website.

Plan prepares for transition to UWinsite Finance

The UWinsite enterprise resource planning project team announces significant progress towards its implementation.

As part of preparations for the launch of UWinsite Finance on February 1, 2018, a transition plan has been developed to identify the financial services which will pause in January to allow for the clean transfer of data. Elements of the plan are very similar to the procedures implemented during the University’s normal fiscal year-end.

Key dates in the UWinsite Finance transition plan include:

  • January 12 – purchase requisitions, purchase orders and budget transfers will pause
  • January 17 – payment processing cut-off date for invoices and travel claims
  • January 24 – journal entries will pause

All financial services will resume post go-live.

Controller Gillian Heisz acknowledges employees across campus are an essential part of the transition process: “We appreciate everyone’s help ensuring the UWinsite Finance launch is a success.”

The full UWinsite Finance transition plan is available on the UWinsite Project website; read it in portable document format. Questions or concerns may be directed to Jenifer Gritke at jgritke@uwindsor.ca or to Heisz at gheisz@uwindsor.ca.
