Outstanding Scholars program office moves to join student success team

The office of the Outstanding Scholars program has relocated to Dillon Hall, joining the Student Success and Leadership Centre team in room 111.

“We’re excited to explore the possibilities for collaboration between our programs that this move will encourage,” says Simon du Toit, co-ordinator of the learning enrichment program.

His office is located now in room 113, Dillon Hall. Student members of the Outstanding Scholars program have access to the newly-refurbished lounge in room 115.

Passersby reminded to put safety first near St. Denis Centre test pits

The St. Denis Centre is asking patrons to be aware of geotechnical testing taking place over the next two to three weeks in preparation for construction of the Lancer Sport and Recreation Centre.

Golder and Associates will be excavating test pits with a backhoe and drilling boreholes in various locations from College Avenue to Pelletier Street to evaluate soil conditions. St. Denis Centre patrons are requested to avoid the test areas.

Retirees pay tribute to departing UWindsor president

Calling him a “true friend,” an association of the university’s retirees paid tribute to UWindsor president Alan Wildeman at its general meeting, Monday in Assumption Hall.

“We extend our warmest wishes to you for a fulfilling retirement,” said David Palmer, president of the Windsor University Retirees’ Association, noting that its members have already made the transition to a “life of freedom.”

Datta Pillay, a former president of the retirees’ association, delivered a tribute to Dr. Wildeman’s UWindsor career, saying his record of 10 years speaks for itself.

“This institution owes a debt of gratitude for this outstanding service,” he said.

About 50 members in attendance gave Wildeman a standing ovation as he accepted a framed certificate reading “The Windsor University Retirees Association appreciates with gratitude the support and encouragement of Dr. Alan Wildeman for his outstanding commitment to the retirees during the past ten years of his tenure.”

Wildeman, who will retire from his office at the end of June, said he will proudly display the certificate in his home.

Free class to offer training in UWindsor website management system

A class Tuesday, May 15, will help staff and faculty responsible for maintaining UWindsor websites learn the basics of the Drupal content management system.

Drupal 7 - Basic Training will focus on teaching site editors how to create pages and events, upload graphics and use menus and blocks, says instructor Rob Aitkens, web development team lead in Public Affairs and Communications.

The class is aimed at employees with little previous experience with the system, for those upgrading their sites from version 6 to 7, or as a refresher. It will run 1:30 to 4 p.m. in room G101A, Leddy Library. Registration is required through this online form.

Appointment of acting associate VP enrolment management announced

Provost Douglas Kneale announced Monday that Chris Busch has accepted a three-year appointment as acting associate vice-president, enrolment management, effective June 1.

In this role, Busch will be responsible for student recruitment and enrolment management, working with faculties and with a Strategic Enrolment Management advisory group to develop a comprehensive enrolment plan.

He had been serving as acting executive director of experiential learning and acting executive director of the Centre for Executive and Professional Education (CEPE). Jennie Atkins will step into the position of acting executive director of CEPE, where she will oversee its future direction as it seeks new opportunities to serve the continuing education needs of students.
