Book sale to support writer-in-residence program

A used book sale Thursday, September 27, in the CAW Student Centre will raise funds to bring a writer-in-residence to the Department of English Language, Literature and Creative Writing.

The department has identified Chatham native Ray Robertson to take up the position, which involves one-on-one consultations with students; participation in literary festivals, workshops and readings; and an opportunity to develop works in progress. Faculty and students are working to raise $10,000 to make the residency possible; the university has pledged matching funds.

Reading to feature work of creative writing students

This Friday, come 7 p.m. at the Katzman Lounge, more than 40 creative writing students will be presenting their work at the Creative Writing Gala Reading.

Each student stands up to the podium, takes a deep breath, and reads a short piece. Then the next student runs up, and presents theirs.

“I’m really excited,” said Priscilla Bernauer, a fourth-year English literature and creative writing student. “This’ll be my third consecutive year doing it.”

Students have to work over their nerves to perform.

Student publication spotlights literary creativity

Members of the English Undergraduate Student Association took a hands-on approach to producing their latest publication assembling and stitching the pages, gluing buttons on the cover, and trimming them in a mass effort to ready them for distribution.

“We had a blast,” said Liz Hawkley, English student and the association’s treasurer, “and created a mosaic of buttons.”

Body of work: kinesiology students excel in fitness competition

The University of Windsor is well-known for its success in track, basketball, and football—now some students are earning a reputation for excellence in another sport: bodybuilding.

Two UWindsor kinesiology students won top honours in their categories at last month’s Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest Classic, a bodybuilding and fitness competition.

Jeff Ackersville in the Classic Bodybuilding Tall division and Shealyn McLaughlin in the Figure Tall division were judged on posing their bodies, sculpted from months of dedication.
