News from Dr. Lucanne Magill
Dr. Lucanne Magill returned recently from Ireland where she visited Limerick for the founding meeting of the new multidisciplinary association: International Association of Music and Medicine, of which Lucanne was invited to be a founding member
Lucanne held the first Advanced Music Therapy in Oncology Training Course for certified music therapists while in Ottawa for the CAMT conference in May. While in Ireland, she met with some international colleagues, and this Training Course has now become an International Consortium. Several universities in 3 countries are currently participating (Canada, US, and Australia...with more possibly joining soon). Therapists completing this training will attain a Professional Certificate in music therapy in Integrative Oncology (MTIO). Portions of this training will occur online with the help of Berklee College of Music in Boston. Other portions will be Institute in-person courses that will be held at different points of the year in designated locations, including ours. It is an exciting development and will continue to help us to be recognized as an important music therapy training centre in Canada.
