A very successful year
This year went by so quickly, but with much success. I was very happy this year to teach the clarinet studio again. We had six students and much progress. Both Alaina Pawlowicz and Kylie Klym performed graduation recitals and Jillian St. Aubin and Alaina both competed at the regional Kiwanis Music Festival. Alaina was chosen to continue to Provincials and I am happy to report that she placed third in the Provincial Diploma category. To my knowledge this is the first time one of our clarinet students has competed at that level.
Our performance season went very well this year, including a residency by Tafelmusik and the Light of East ensemble, with masterclasses by classical guitarist Daniel Bolshoy and wonderful singers from Toronto. We had an unprecedented number of student solo recitals and the performances were of a high level. I already have three students signed up for recitals in the coming year, so the enthusiasm and talent continues.
In the coming year we are looking forward to several faculty chamber recitals, another guest residency, joint projects with the area schools and many collaborations.
Of course the big news is the building downtown and the School’s involvement in this new endeavour. Certainly this is incredibly exciting and we have all been waiting so long for this opportunity!
