Reel Canada, a unique project aimed to bring Canadian film to secondary schools visited with the Faculty of Education's teacher candidates on January 28, 2010. Co-founders, Jack Blum and Sharon Corder, spoke to the candidates on how Reel Canada utilizes a day-long travelling film festival to spark interest in Canadian Film with secondary school students.
Each film festival held at a secondary school includes films selected by the students from a comprehensive program of Canadian documentaries, animated, shorts and feature films, all of Canadian content. Guest speakers such as actors, directors and other prominent personalities introduce the film and answer questions from the students.
Reel Canada was developed in 2005 to address concerns over loss of Canada's cultural identity. Due to the overwhelming influence and availability of film and literature from foreign sources, Reel Canada 's aim is to create and nurture a sense of cultural identity in today's young people.
