University of Windsor and Lambton College have partnered to offer students a BEd/ECE Diploma program with a focus on early learning. This two-year joint program is offered exclusively on-site at Lambton College in Sarnia.
This joint venture was designed to meet the anticipated demand for early childhood educators and primary teachers prepared to deliver the full-day early learning program announced by the provincial government in October 2009. The full-day learning initiative was phased in, September 2010, and accessed by approximately 240,000 four- and five-year-olds by 2015. Graduates of the joint program will be able to apply for positions as an elementary teacher or as an early childhood educator in Ontario’s schools.
Combining quality programming with exceptional faculty, the University of Windsor Faculty of Education prides itself in offering a student-focused approach to education. The Faculty has earned respect for successful teacher preparation and has designed an educational experience that guarantees a solid theoretical foundation for embarking on a career in teaching. This degree-granting program also emphasizes active involvement and reflective practice by providing students with practical work experience in primary junior classroom settings alongside a certified teaching professional.
Located in Sarnia, Ontario, on the shores of Lake Huron, Lambton College’s Early Childhood Education program specializes in preparing students in both theory and practice in a variety of settings. Students will have the opportunity to experience child care first-hand within the Lambton College on-campus Ontario Early Years Centre.
This BEd/ECE program will prepare individuals to teach at the preschool and elementary levels with a specialization in Early Childhood Education. The program is offered jointly over two years (four semesters) by the Faculty of Education and Lambton College (Sarnia) beginning in September 2012 and is housed at Lambton College. During semesters 1 and 4 of the program candidates will focus on their BEd and during semesters 2 and 3 their focus will be on the ECE component. Graduates of the program will receive both the Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree (Primary-Junior) from the University of Windsor and the Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE) from Lambton College. As this is a consecutive BEd degree, all the usual admission requirements must be met by prospective applicants, including the possession of a Bachelor’s degree.
