Education professor recognized for contributions to Canadian math community
Very early in life, she developed a love for mathematics, says Dragana Martinovic.
"Its beauty, elegance, variety and applicability never ceased to amaze me," says the associate professor of education.
Her work to share that love has been recognized by the Fields Institute — a Toronto-based centre for mathematical research activity — which appointed her a lifetime fellow Monday in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the Canadian mathematical community.
Dr. Martinovic, the Research Leadership Chair in the Faculty of Education, co-chair's the institute's MathEd Forum and is a co-editor of the new Fields Mathematics Education Journal.
"I am greatly honoured by this recognition coming from the Fields Institute," she said. "This award tells me that what I have been doing so far was noticed and appreciated by my colleagues."
She joins 80 fellows inducted since the program's inauguration in 2002 in celebration of the institute's 10th anniversary. The board of directors announced the honour at its annual general meeting on June 27. Learn more on the institute's Web site.
