Rationale

Rationale

The Joint PhD in Educational Studies Program is unique for two reasons. The program offers students flexible learning environments utilizing face to face seminars, tutorials and distance education. This includes CLEW, videoconferencing, teleconferencing, and electronic mail. Such learning environments facilitate access for students to advanced study in education across a wide geographic range. We accept full-time and part-time students into the program from across Ontario, Canada, and beyond.

Second, the program is unique because of its "jointness". The Joint PhD in Educational Studies Program brings together a high number of qualified faculty from the participating universities whose expertise and research interests cover a broad spectrum of topics. This provides greatly enhanced opportunities for depth and breadth in supervisory expertise, as well as in generating new knowledge and directions in research. Other resources of the participating universities including libraries and technology are combined in a cooperative effort to increase educational opportunities for students, representing a prudent and efficient use of public funds. Finally, the program fosters collaboration and networking among graduate students and faculty, and facilitates partnerships that promote the growth of research activity.
