The IEEE Joint Chapter of Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) and Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC), Windsor Section welcomes students who are interested in computational intelligence, data mining, machine learning, cybernetics domains to participate in the first competition for the IEEE CIS/SMC Challenge.
The purpose of this competition is to offer students an opportunity to exercise and improve their problem solving, analytical, programming and technical writing skills. Only undergraduate and graduate students of the University of Windsor are eligible to participate in the competition.
Instructions for participation
Interested students should download the Challenge dataset in order to classify a two-class problem, and report the classification accuracy over the stratified 10 folds cross-validation. The dataset contains 14 features (columns) and two classes (see the last column, column 15).
To solve the problem you can propose, develop, adapt and implement any classification algorithm, including, but not limited to, neural networks, probabilistic classifiers, fuzzy networks, support vector machines, decision trees. You may need to perform a preprocessing strategy including, but not limited to, missing data imputation and feature selection.
Upon completion of the work, you need to write a short report describing your implementation procedure, main steps, and the attained results in terms of F-measure (F1 score).
Then submit your report by sending a PDF file to “firstname.lastname@example.org”, by April 18, 2018.
Indicate in the email subject “CISSMC Challenge”.
The report should contain the name and student ID of the participant.
The CISSMC committee will evaluate all submitted reports.
Only the shortlisted participants will be contacted to submit/run their codes. The committee does not provide any advice to students for as long as the competition/submission is open.
