The Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering currently offers an accredited Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) Program in Industrial Engineering and with a Business Minor Option and a graduate Program offering a Master of Engineering (MEng) and Master of Applied Science (MASc) in Industrial Engineering with manufacturing systems focus as well as a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering.
About Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering
The Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (IMSE) program is unique and innovative. It provides students with a broad based curriculum of practical real world material that develops engineering skill for which demand exceeds supply in industry, manufacturing and the business world wide.
Manufacturing assignments held by our IMSE alumni all over the world include the areas of Product Engineering, Process Engineering, Plant / Facility Engineering, Tool Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Human Factors. Business organizations such as banks, railroads, petroleum, airlines, insurance companies, and hospitals are also employing our graduates to manage and improve performance of their operations.
The department has a tradition of highly successful co-op internship education programs with local business and industry in Canada, the United States and the European Union. These activities expose students to applied aspects of their research programs and help them establish strong contacts with potential employers in relevant fields that include design and manufacturing at several local corporate headquarters such as Ford, General Motors, DaimlerChrysler, Toyota, Honda, VW Audi and Henry Ford Hospital. The combination of real industry experience, cutting edge research and a curriculum that delivers the skill needed by employers provides exceptional value and our degree is valued by others. Enrolment in IMSE is competitive and the department welcomes new student applicants who have a drive to succeed and are prepared to be challenged to top performance.
Students may enroll in a regular program in Industrial Engineering, or with a Minor in Business Administration. The baccalaureate degree program in Industrial Engineering is accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board of the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers.
IMSE History
The Industrial Engineering program at the University of Windsor was started in 1966 as an option within the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and the first candidates for the master's degree were accepted in early 1967.
The Department of Industrial Engineering was formally established in 1972 and has since provided programs leading to the B.A.Sc., M.A.Sc., AND Ph.D. degrees.
The department was named Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (IMSE) in 1995. The Ph.D. program in Manufacturing Systems Engineering was offered between 1995 and 2002. In 2002 the IMSE Department obtained OCGS (Ontario College of Graduate Studies) approval for an M.Eng. Program in Industrial Engineering (IE).
This was followed in 2005, with the OCGS approval of a multi-disciplinary Ph.D. program in Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (IMSE) .
The objective of these programs is to impart the required multi-disciplinary education and skills in an environment that fosters excellence in research and awareness of the many challenges of modern Industrial and modern Manufacturing Systems.
The Master's programs lead to the degrees of Master of Applied Sciences (M.A.Sc.) and Master of Engineering (M.Eng.)
