Aegrotat Grade Exceptions

Aegrotat Grades:

An aegrotat is a final estimated grade, assigned in a course where a student was physically unable to write the final exam.  If you experience a severe and unanticipated personal emergency, you may be eligible to apply for an aegrotat grade.  In order to be eligible, you must:

  • have detailed documentation that supports your application.
  • have completed at least 50% or more of the course work for the class concerned.
  • be passing the course

How to apply:

1. Complete all relevant sections of the Aegrotat form available at the Registrar’s Office.

2. Complete a letter of rationale explaining the reason for your request.

3. Attach supporting documents to the letter (such as a doctor’s note, death certificate, etc.)

When and where to apply:

Bring your completed form, letter of rationale, and supporting documents to the Registrar’s Office as soon as possible before or after the final exam.

What happens next?

All of your materials are sent to the Associate Dean's Office and then to the Academic Administrative Unit responsible for the course. The AAU Head then asks the original instructor to come up with a decision for the final grade. The Head then makes a recommendation to the Dean of the Faculty who then forwards the decision to the Registrar.

You will be notified of the decision by the Registrar's Office.
