Optometrist

Show Title:
Want to be an Optometrist?

You need to complete an undergraduate degree BEFORE you apply to Optometry school. Your undergraduate degree is the first 3 to 4 years of University you complete to receive a general (3-year) or honors (4-year) Bachelor’s degree.

What undergraduate degree should I complete?

It depends on which optometry school(s) you wish to apply to and what subject area you are interested in.

There are two Optometry schools in Canada. The University of Waterloo offers an Optometry program in English and the Universite de Montreal offers an Optometry program in French.

For example, Waterloo School of Optometry requires you to take at least three year of an undergraduate Science program in University like:

BSc Biology
BSc Biochemistry

Does it make a difference where I complete my undergrad degree?

The Waterloo School of Optometry does not consider the University of origin in their admissions decision. If you would like to hear this from them go to:
