The University of Windsor is an excellent choice to apply to if you would like to become an engineer. We offer five accredited engineering degree programs with several options, a paid co-op program and thousands of dollars in scholarship money to students entering engineering. Did you know as a female entering engineering you are eligible to automatically get a $1000 scholarship off of your entrance tuition?
To become an engineer, you will enter a four year Bachelor of Applied Science with a co-op option. Upon graduation, it is highly recommended to register with Professional Engineers of Ontario as an Engineer in training and to take the Professional Practice Exam within the first 1 or 2 years after graduation. Once you have taken and passed the exam, you will need four years works experience before you can apply to become a Professional Engineer. Once you are a Professional Engineer (P. Eng), not only to you get paid more, but you are also able to sign off on projects. One of the many reasons engineering is such a great program to get into is because you enter into a professional program right out of high school.
The five fields of engineering with the respective options available at the University of Windsor are:
Civil Engineering
As a Civil Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, upgrading and maintaining infrastructure.
Electrical and Computer Engineering
As an Electrical Engineer, you will design communication systems, electrical power grids, circuits, electrical motors, electronic sensors, and many more of the technologies and applications that are so important to society today.
Environmental Engineering
Environmental engineers use chemistry, biology, and engineering principles to solve air, water, and land pollution problems, and can also design municipal water supply and industrial wastewater treatment systems.
Industrial Engineering
As an industrial engineer, you may use sophisticated processes to streamline production systems, design flexible manufacturing approaches, and you will use a wide range of knowledge to do so: operations research, manufacturing science and enterprise resources planning/integration.
Industrial Engineering with Automotive Manufacturing Systems Option
This unique option prepares graduates for high-growth potential careers in the automotive industry, manufacturing, and the business world.
Industrial Engineering with Supply Chain Option
This option includes specialized curriculum in operations research. You will also learn simulation technologies used by manufacturers and providers of transportation services worldwide.
Mechanical Engineering
The general field of Mechanical Engineering is very diverse, and engineering students will apply their knowledge of thermofluids and solid mechanics to the design of large-scale systems, including power plants, turbine engines, and air conditioning.
Mechanical Engineering with Automotive option
As a Mechanical Engineering student with automotive option, you study topics such as vehicle dynamics, internal combustion engines, diesel technology, and fuel cell technologies. You will also get the opportunity to design, build and race vehicles in events sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) as part of their fourth-year design project.
Mechanical Engineering with Materials Option
Mechanical Engineering students who choose the Materials stream will evaluate the structure and properties of metals, ceramics, polymers and composites to optimize designs.
Mechanical Engineering with Environmental Engineering Option
As a student in the Mechanical Engineering with Environmental option, you will receive the in-depth training that all other mechanical engineering students receive, but your technical electives will focus on subjects such as water/wastewater treatment, noise control and abatement, environmental assessment, and recycling and materials recovery.
