Show Title:
Want to Be a Teacher?

The University of Windsor is an excellent choice to apply to if you would like to become a teacher.  We offer not just one but two ways for you to become a teacher.  The two different ways to become a teacher are:

Consecutive Program:
First you complete an undergraduate degree (3 or 4 year Bachelors degree) and then you apply to the one-year consecutive program with the faculty of Education.  The one-year consecutive program prepares Teacher Candidates in one of three possible divisions of teaching specialization: Primary/Junior (JK to Grade 6); Junior/Intermediate (Grades 4 to 10); Intermediate/Senior (Grades 7 - 12). Upon successful completion of the requirements for teacher certification in Ontario, a recommendation will be made by the Dean of the Faculty to the Ontario College of Teachers indicating eligibility for the Ontario Certificate of Qualification.

Concurrent Programs:
In this case you take your 3 or 4 year (general or honors) undergraduate degree at the same time as your Bachelor of Education degree (BEd).  We also offer 2 concurrent programs that include an Early Childhood Education (ECE) diploma from St. Clair College.  The concurrent program will take 4 or 5 years to complete depending on whether you choose to take a 3 or 4 year undergraduate degree.

What Grade level would you like to teach?

There are three choices: Primary Junior (Grade JK-6), Junior Intermediate (Grade 4-10), and Intermediate Senior (Grade 7-12).  If you are not sure which grade level you would like to teach you may want to consider the consecutive program and complete an undergraduate degree before you apply to the Faculty of Education so you will have 3 to 4 years to decide which grade you would like to teach.  If you know which grade level you would like to teach then learn which grade levels are involved in each degree by going to www.uwindsor.ca/edfac.  After you have taken one age group for a year you can also “upgrade” to be able to teach more then just one age group. This means you go back to school for one more course to be able to teach another age group. There is also the option to upgrade to teach special needs as well.

How many students does the University of Windsor admit?
