Dr. Brian Fryer was among the honourees at the Celebration of Excellence in Scholarship, Research and Creative
Activity hosted by the Office of Research Services on Feb. 7, 2011. The Mineralogical Association of Canada has awarded the 2010 Peacock Medal to Brian Fryer for his outstanding contributions to the mineral sciences in Canada. Perhaps more than any other scientist in Canada, Fryer has helped define the frontiers of the earth sciences. Among Fryer’s major contributions to science is the introduction and development of inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy (ICPMS) as an analytical tool to study the properties of practically all metals involved in natural processes, but at concentration levels never before realized. As his research interests are not restricted to the normal boundaries of most geochemists, his research is an icon of multidisciplinary efforts generating noteworthy results.
