Important Dates for Graduate Students

SUMMER TERM 2012 / see also FALL TERM 2012

March 1

Last day to apply for Spring’2012 convocation
(a late application fee applies after that date; no applications will be accepted within 4 weeks prior to convocation; students who applied for Fall’2011 convocation but did not graduate must reapply for Spring’2012 convocation)

April 1

Deadline for recommending a PhD external examiner for students who plan to graduate at Spring Convocation

April 30

Summer term fees are due and payable

May 7

Summer term begins 

May 18

Last day to register via the web. After this date students must complete a course change form and provide an explanation for late registration.

May 18

Last day for oral defense of dissertations, theses, and major papers for Spring Convocation

May 21

Victoria Day (statutory holiday). No classes

May 28 

Last day to deposit dissertations, theses and major papers in the Office of Graduate Studies (after being checked there for format) for Spring Convocation; AND

Last day for completion of all requirements for graduate degrees under Phase I registration (Summer term 2012) of the tuition fee refund policy. Students who have completed all requirements (including deposit in the Office of Graduate Studies) for major papers, theses, and dissertations by this date are eligible for a 100% tuition refund for Summer 2012 term, provided that the student was registered in the previous term (Winter 2012), and that all other requirements for the degree are already complete. The grade will be assigned to the Winter 2012 term. 

June 13-15

Spring Convocation 

June 22

Last day for completion of all requirements for graduate degrees under Phase II registration (Summer term 2012) of the tuition fee refund policy. Students who have completed all requirements (including deposit in the Office of Graduate Studies) for major papers, theses, and dissertations by this date are eligible for a 50% tuition refund for Summer 2012 term, provided that the student was registered in the previous term (Winter 2012), and that all other requirements for the degree are already complete. The grade will be assigned to the Summer 2012 term.

July 1

Canada Day (University Offices closed) 

August 1

Last day to file an application for Fall graduation
(a late application fee applies after that date; no applications will be accepted within 4 weeks prior to convocation; students who applied for Spring 2012 convocation but did not graduate must reapply for Fall 2012 convocation)  

August 3
