Event details:

  • Register for one or both days
  • On April 24th, learn career options from our career panelists who have used their graduate degrees to pursue successful academic and non academic careers.  You will be able to ask questions and learn tips for success from their experiences and expertise.
  • Dress your best and have a professional headshot taken and sent to you through our LinkedIn photo booth so you can have a professional profile picture that will get the attention of employers
  • Enjoy your morning refreshments and lunch provided for you
  • Meet other UWindsor grad students
  • This event will include breakout sessions (which you choose during registration), as well as large sessions that cover topics such as dealing with mental health considerations unique to grad students, job search and networking for grad students, entrepreneurship, and topics covered by our special keynote speakers.

Robin Mazumder @robinmazumder (April 24)
Robin Mazumder is doctoral candidate in cognitive neuroscience at the University of Waterloo, where he is studying the psychological impacts of urban design. His research is inspired by his passion for urbanism, his front line experience working as an occupational therapist in mental health, and his interest in human≠centred design. He graduated with his Master's in Occupational Therapy from the University of Toronto in 2011 and completed training in design thinking in 2015 with Stanford's D School.


 

April 24th Breakout Sessions (choose 1):

  1. Marketing Your Skills through a Teaching Dossier: Learn how to create a teaching dossier, which is important for a successful academic career
  2. Professional Communications: Learn how to communicate verbally, non-verbally, and electronically in the professional manner that employers expect.
  3. Job Search for MOM Students: This session will cover job search best practices as well as using LinkedIn and job search sites to research and submit applications for open positions.
  4. Academic Vs Non Academic Careers: Learn career options for graduate degree holders and tips for preparing for both academic and non academic careers that can increase your chances of employment.
  5. Resume Vs CV: Gain an understanding of the differences between a resume and curriculum vitae (CV), how to format them, and how they are used in the application process.
  6. I'm going to Google you: ePortfolios and building your online brand: If you Googled yourself today, would you hire you? In this session, we'll use Wordpress to connect your life, your passions, your education and your career path.
  7. Career Assessment: Use career assessments to learn about different career options that will fit with your interests and motivations.
  8. Get Work Ready: Using the latest labour market information and employer research, this talk will give you tools and tips to be ready to find great work after graduation. 
  9. Professionalism for the Workplace: Employers want employees who understand how to be “professional”.  Learn how to demonstrate this to employers.

 

April 24th Career Panels:

  1. Academic Career Panel: Panelists will represent a number of successful careers within academia.
  2. Non Academic Career Panel - STEM: Panelists will represent a number of successful careers in industry in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and/or math.
  3. Non Academic Career Panel - Social Sectors): Panelists will represent a number of successful careers in the fields of arts, social sciences, humanities, government, business, and/or education.
