EATING DISORDERS

Eating disorders are struggles related to food and weight. Disordered eating is a coping strategy women or men may use to deal with painful emotions, stresses and experiences. The reasons why an eating disorder develops may not be clear, but therapy with a professional counsellor can help those struggling with weight and shape issues.

If you think you may be suffering from an eating disorder or might be at risk of developing an eating disorder, answer the following questions.

DO YOU?

  • Feel out of control when you eat?
  • Feel guilty after you eat?
  • Think about food or body shape constantly?
  • Exercise to burn calories, rather than to stay fit?
  • Have an intense fear of gaining weight?
  • Have to be perfect in everything you do?
  • Behave secretively about your eating habits?
  • Believe that life would be perfect and you would be happy if you lost weight?
  • Feel that the only control you have in your life are in the areas of food and weight?
  • Feel that no matter what you do, it will never be perfect?

If you answered "YES" to two or more of the questions, it could be an indication that you may be at risk for developing an eating disorder. You may want to consider talking confidentially to someone who deals with eating disorders.

To talk confidentially to a therapist about food or weight issues contact any of the following departments:
