Notice of upcoming changes to the University of Windsor Tuition Remission
Benefit Program application process
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide the highest quality and most effective levels of service delivery, the Department of Human Resources, in consultation with the Financial Services and I.T. Services departments, is improving the application process for the Tuition Remission Benefit.
What is changing?
· The current per semester application process is being converted to a once per academic year application process.
· An electronic application tool (eTuitionWaiver) is being developed which will replace the current paper application process.
When are the changes effective?
· Beginning with the fall 2011 semester, you no longer have to submit one application for each and every semester you or your eligible dependant are enrolled in eligible courses.
Applicants will now submit one application that will cover the entire academic school year (September to August).
· Once approved, the tuition waiver will be automatically renewed through each subsequent semester, subject to continued satisfaction of the terms and conditions for eligibility, and end with the summer semester. Applicants must then re-apply for the next upcoming academic school year.
· As the electronic application tool will not be ready for the fall, 2011 semester, paper applications will continue to be required, until the new tool is functional. The eTuitionWaiver tool is expected to go live during this next upcoming academic school year.
What are the benefits of this change?
· Simple, convenient and efficient web-based process for faculty / staff
· Improved record keeping for HR and Student Accounts & Receivables
· Significant reduction in number of repeat applications each year
· Time savings for all parties
· Accelerated approval process for employees and dependants
· Green initiative - elimination of large quantities of paper/ink
We’ll continue to update you as the electronic application process develops. In the interim, please be reminded that tuition remission applications are to be submitted prior to tuition fee payment deadlines. Therefore, tuition waiver applications for the fall term of the academic school year September, 2011 to August, 2012 were due in the Department of Human Resources by August 12, 2011. Please submit any outstanding applications without delay.
