Welcome to the Institute for Diagnostic Imaging Research (IDIR) at the University of Windsor.
Since opening its doors in 2008, the IDIR has supported multi-disciplinary, collaborative research that has, in many ways, revolutionized industries around the world through the development of state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging technologies and products. Today, I’m proud to say that the Institute and its distinguished researchers are widely acknowledged as among the “best-of-the-best” in the development of high-resolution, non-intrusive diagnostic imaging methods, technologies and systems that form the basis for the commercialization of cutting-edge products like:
- Real-time spot weld inspection devices for the automotive industry
- A portable, transcranial diagnostic device for use in hospitals and trauma scenes
- Ultrasonic dental diagnostic tools
In addition, our research and development work is addressing challenges in security, aerospace and energy.
While our accomplishments thus far have been truly remarkable, our exploration in the world of diagnostic imaging has only just begun. Thanks to continued support from our funding partners, we now find ourselves in the enviable positions of not only continuing our current research projects, but launching new initiatives that will set the new standard in the field of diagnostic imaging.
As always, the Institute will foster collaborative research and technology transfer initiatives with private sector and government partners, while assisting in the development of new spin-off companies. And, of course, we remain wholeheartedly committed to mentoring highly qualified personnel (HQP) who will lead the way in diagnostic imaging technology development in the future.
