MTCU Key Performance Indicators 2009/10

Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities - 2009/10 Key Performance Indicators

In response to the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities’ requirement that institutions make data regarding employment rates, graduation rates, and osap default rates available for students, the University of Windsor is posting these three indicators.

The data is published in 26 program categories of which the University of Windsor has programs in 15 categories. Other Arts and Science includes students enrolled in General Arts and Science majors not specified by other categories or unspecified. Kinesiology, Recreation, Physical Education also includes students enrolled in programs in non-teaching fields. Other Health Professions includes students enrolled in Basic Medical Science programs, Medical Specialties, Paraclinical Sciences, Epidemiology and Public Health, and Medical Technology. (Medical Interns have been excluded).

To maintain adequate confidentiality in light of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, information has not been shown in instances where the number of students is five or fewer.

Employment Rates  - University Graduate Survey

To determine employment rates of recent graduates, Ontario universities conducted a survey of all 2007 graduates of Bachelors or First Professional degree programs. Graduates were asked questions regarding their employment situation at 6 months and 2 years after graduation.

The employment rate is defined as the number of employed persons, including full-time and part-time employment, expressed as a percentage of the labour force where the labour force is those persons who were employed, or unemployed but looking for work.

Graduation Rates

MTCU has calculated the degree completion rate using the existing data sources. Rates were calculated based on Year 1 students in bachelors and first professional degree programs in 2001, who then received a degree between 2002 and 2008 in any program area.

The methodology does not account for those students who may transfer to another University and instead counts them as not graduating. In addition, those students who begin their studies at University full time but later transfer to part time may not graduate within the time frame noted above.

In Mathematics, Nursing, and Physical Sciences the number of students in the program group is less than 45. In these cases, small changes in the number of students ( i.e. transfer students, those studying part time) could significantly affect the graduation rates.

OSAP Loan Default Rates

The 2009 default rates reflect the repayment status of students (undergraduate and graduate) who were issued an Ontario Student Loan (OSL) in the 2006/07 academic year and did not receive an OSL in 2007/08. Student loan recipients/defaulters are, for purpose of calculating default rates, assigned to the last institution/program they attended in 2006/07. The status of these loans was assessed as of July 2009 or about two years after entering into repayment.

An Ontario Student Loan is in default when the Ontario government has paid a bank's claim for an inactive loan. A loan is inactive when no payments were made by the student for at least 90 days. Responsibility for recovery of defaulted accounts was transferred to private collection agencies in January 2001.
