There are two components to Health Coverage for International students at the University of Windsor; BASIC HEALTH INSURANCE & DRUG AND DENTAL COVERAGE
BASIC HEALTH INSURANCE
The University’s Green Shield Health Insurance Plan (GSHIP), which is equivalent to OHIP, is a comprehensive plan that is mandatory for all undergraduate and graduate international students here on a study permit.
The GSHIP premium is charged to your account and paid with your tuition. It appears on the financial screen as “Health Insurance fees”. Students may purchase coverage for a spouse and children who are living in Ontario with them.
Students who provide proof of coverage under one of the following programs may apply for consideration to opt out:
This type of coverage is in addition to the Basic Health Insurance, GSHIP. The student governments have also negotiated with Green Shield Canada and Industrial-Alliance Pacific Life Insurance Company to provide extra health coverage for dental, prescription drug and vision expenses. This fee appears on the financial screen (SIS) as ‘Drug/Dental Plan’.
