Resolved: Internet issues March 01

Update Mar 02 8:30am: The fibre break was repaired this morning just before 6:00am.  Traffic is being re-balanced across all providers and should be operating normally.

 

The University is currently experiencing problems with certain sites on the Internet.  We suspect this is caused by a problem with one of our upstream Internet providers.  We are investigating the issue and engaging with our ISPs.

Symptoms are that certain websites and applications will not work or may be very slow to complete operations, while others work just fne.

 

Update Mar 01 10:30am: We have received confirmation that there is a significant fibre break in the Cambridge area that is affecting Bell/TELUS connectivity to southern Ontario.  We have routed our Internet traffic via our other providers.  Unfortunately this break may also be impacting the other Internet providers in the region due to carrying extra load and consequently all Internet performance may be affected.

Update Mar 01 1:30pm: We have received confirmation that there is a significant fibre break in the Cambridge area that is affecting Bell/TELUS connectivity to southern Ontario.  We have routed our Internet traffic balanced across our other providers and Internet applications and services appear to functioning normally. 

The fibre break has not yet been repaired and we will provide another update when we have reverted back to our normal multi-provider configuration.
