Similar to most government entities, the University has standardized on Blackberry primarily for use of the Blackberry Enterprise Server, or BES. This server connects to your device for automated backup and recovery (excluding 3rd party applications you install). If your device is lost or stolen, or if you obtain a new or replacement Blackberry device, the BES allows you to activate the device using http://myblackberry.uwindsor.ca with assistance from the IT Services helpdesk.
Licenses are used to connect your Blackberry to the BES, and these are free for Telus brand Blackberry devices. There is a fee of $100 to connect other providers’ Blackberry devices to the BES. The BES also assists in the enforcement of the Electronic Device Security Policy as all Smartphones are required to have passwords for access to protect confidential and private information that you are responsible for as a user of the device.
