Once you fully charge your device's battery for the first time, you will need to go through the initial setup to configure your device. You can accomplish this using the Setup wizard on your device.

Access to the University's Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES).
For this to work properly, you must ensure that your plan includes BES option, as some plans may initially only include BlackBerry Internet Services (BIS) option. IT Services will create your BES account and e-mail you device activation password along with step-by-step instructions. You will need to perform so called Enterprise Activation to connect your device to the University enterprise systems and enable over-the-air real time synchronisation of your University e-mail, calendar, contacts, etc.

Create your device password.
For security reason, all electronic devices connected to the University enterprise systems are required to have password protection. You will be asked to create your password during the Enterprise Activation process. You will need to enter this password to unlock your device each time you use it, except for receiving phone calls.

Add additional e-mail accounts.
You will be able to add your non-University e-mail accounts to your BlackBerry, such as Gmail, Hotmail, etc. Your device will use IMAP or POP protocols to retrieve e-mails from these accounts. A separate mailbox icon will be added to your screen for each of these accounts.

Set up WiFi connection.
You will need to configure your preferred WiFi connection so that whenever you are in the coverage zone, your device will use WiFi connection automatically instead of your carrier's cellular network.

Set up Bluetooth.
If you will be a using a hands free device for your phone calls (ie. ear piece or your car's hand's free option), you will need to enable Bluetooth and pair it with each of your Bluetooth devices.
