Big File Drop Box is an online service that allows users to transfer large files that cannot or should not be sent by e-mail to other users in a more secure manner. To use this service, visit www.uwindsor.ca/bfdb
There are two ways to use this service. You can upload a file for another person or you can invite another person to upload a file for you. The other person does not need to have a UWin ID.
Uploading A File
After you log in with your UWin ID, browse to the file that you want to upload by clicking on Browse and navigating to where the file you want to upload is located. If you have more than one file, as suggested, please pack and compress multiple files before you upload or you can send each file individually.
Your UWin e-mail address will be entered by default. Add the e-mail address or addresses of the people that you want to be able to access the file. Make sure that you separate each e-mail address with a comma. Click on Upload.
Depending on the size of the file, it may take a minute, but when complete, a link to access the file, along with the download code is sent to each e-mail address entered. Using this link, the invitee will be able to enter the code and download the file. The file is available for one week after the link is sent.
Inviting A Person to Upload A File For You
This service also allows you to invite a person with a file they want to transfer to you to use this service. You can do this by clicking on Invite A Friend.
The invitee will receive an e-mail with a link that will allow them to access the service. The invitee follows the instructions above for uploading. The only difference is that an invitee will not have the ability to invite other people to access the file. Also, when they are done, they will not receive an access code. Again, any file they upload is only accessible for one week. At this point, the invitee can either close the window, click on a link to login for this service (only people with UWin ID’s can login) or they can click on a link to be taken to the University of Windsor website.
Notes
If you need to send multiple files, you should either send them each individually, or compress the files into a single zip file.
