Service Description
PureMessage Spam Filter
The University of Windsor uses the PureMessage system by Sophos for filtering e-mail.
The default setting of the Spam filter quarantines mail on a quarantine server and sends a daily digest to show you the mail that is being held. It works like this - when your e-mail passes through the Spam filter server it is examined and given a score reflecting the probability that it is Spam.
Below are some instructions to get you started on using the PureMessage Spam Filter application. If you have questions please contact the HelpDesk (x-4440).
Who Can Use This Service
Everyone who uses e-mail on the University of Windsor’s central e-mail servers (e-mail addresses using the @uwindsor.ca domain) are automatically set up to use the spam filter.
Access and Availability
The spam filter is integrated into the e-mail servers and is active 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except for scheduled server maintenance times. During the times that the spam filter is undergoing maintenance, as a part of the maintenance on the e-mail servers, the result is that e-mails are not delivered until after the scheduled maintenance is completed.
