OfficeScan General Introduction (For Campus Network Use)
The Trend Micro OfficeScan Corporate Edition is centrally-managed virus protection software for campus workstations. It protects our campus’s computers from computer viruses. OfficeScan’s antivirus function is provided through its client software. The virus protection clients are installed to all Windows workstations throughout our campus. These client programs perform the real-time and manual virus scanning.
There is two-way communication between the OfficeScan server and the OfficeScan clients. Configuration updates, new virus pattern files, scan engines and program updates are sent from the server to the clients. In the opposite direction, the client sends status information to the server which can then be viewed within the management console.
OfficeScan provides many configurations for infected file handling. IT Services adopts clean or quarantine configuration. The OfficeScan try to clean virus first, if it can’t clean the virus then quarantine this infected file to a separate directory in local machine.
Trend Micro Internet Security (For Home and UWin Wireless Network Use)
Trend Micro Internet Security (previously PC-cillin) is available for faculty, staff and student home usage. Please do not use this for PCs located on campus at the University of Windsor. The OfficeScan application should be used for on-campus PCs.
Please note that Trend Micro Internet Security (previously PC-cillin) is recommended for laptops and PCs being used on the UWin wireless network.
It is recommended that you have a high-speed connection to download this application. If you are connecting over dial-in, please visit the UWin Software Depot to order an installation CD.
Who Can Use This Service
Students, Faculty, Staff, Affliates and Retirees all have access to Trend Micro Internet Security. Also, all campus network computers have Trend Micro OfficeScan.
Access and Availability
Trend Micro OfficeScan should be installed on all campus network computers. This is done by the IT Services HelpDesk or your departmental technician. Trend Micro Internet Security (previously PC-cillin) is available for faculty, staff and student home usage. Please visit the UWin Software Depot to download or order an installation CD. You must have an active UWin ID to access the Software Depot.
Cost
There is no cost for Trend Micro Office Scan. For off campus computers, Faculty, Staff and Students are entitled to one copy of Trend Micro Internet Security at no cost. If you are a student, the cost is covered under your student fees. Additional copies of Trend Micro Internet Security can be purchased from the Software Depot.
