PC Security is an important issue to assist you to keep your machine healthy and working as an effective tool for you. PC Security has a number of important aspects to it and here are some recommendations on how to handle them from IT Services.
 
Update and Patch your software - IT Services recommends that you have automatic updates installed on your Microsoft computer.
 
Keep up to date with Virus Protection Software - The University has a site license for Trend Micro software. When you install Trend Micro OfficeScan, you will insure your machine stays up to date with virus definition files, enable firewall protection. The latest version of OfficeScan will also start to scan for some spyware and grayware. Off-campus PCs should install Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security, which is available at the University's Software Depot.
 
Keep Your Passwords Secure - It is important to choose hard to guess passwords and keep them secret.
 
Don't Open E-mail Attachments from unknown senders - E-mail attachments may have viruses or spyware. If you do not know who is sending you an attachment, you are better off to delete it.
 
Backup your Files - Faculty and Staff should keep their files on the Novell network where they are backed up on a nightly basis. Students should keep two copies of their important files on memory sticks or floppies.
