Web Data Collection

Service Description

The Web plays a significant role in the business of the University. It is used for recruitment of students, dissemination of information to the university community and public, and supports research and academic activities. To support this, the University has entered into a one-year agreement with FluidSurveys (www.fluidsurveys.com) a popular, comprehensive on-line survey creation service. This new, cloud based product will largely replace the service provided by Web Services Group for researchers who create on-line surveys. The University license allows us to create up to 500 “enterprise” level surveys over the next year. The “enterprise” edition of FluidSurveys provides the following features;

  • Unlimited Questions
  • Unlimited Responses
  • Report Generation
  • Report/Data Export including SPSS export
  • Advanced Branching
  • Advanced Question Types
  • Advanced Publishing
  • Extraction & Looping
  • Role Management
  • Panel Management
  • White Label Option
  • Group collaboration

FluidSurveys is very easy to use. It features a drag and drop survey editor and loads of features. You can create and analyze surveys, polls and online forms in minutes. FluidSurveys provides a fast and efficient way to collect & analyze information online. There are a number of on-line data analysis features embedded in the service. But data can be exported to popular file formats including comma separated values (csv), Excel and others. There’s even an SPSS export facility.

The surveys are compliant with our current accessibility requirements as specified by AODA, 2005 (www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/statutes/english/elaws_statutes_05a11_e.htm). They conform to WCAG 2.0 AA Web standards (www.w3.org/TR/WCAG/).

The collected data is stored on servers located in Canada. No data is stored outside the country. This should alleviate concerns that people have that are related to privacy.

You must have a valid uwindsor.ca e-mail address (UWinID) in order to qualify for a FluidSurveys account. If necessary, researchers who are working with colleagues at other institutions may apply for a “friends” account so that person can access FluidSurveys. There is no cost to use this service but you must be prepared to do the development work yourself. The IT Services Helpdesk will provide support if you have any questions or other issues that you cannot resolve by yourself. We do anticipate offering training in the near future.

University policy requires that anyone interested in doing any kind of survey must obtain clearance from Research Ethics Board or REB (www.uwindsor.ca/reb). There is an administrative survey policy that can be found on the Office of Institutional Analysis Web site at www.uwindsor.ca/info/adminstrative-survey-policy.
