Web Design

Service Description

The Web plays a significant role in the business of the University. It is used for recruitment of students, dissemination of information to the university community and public, and supports research and academic activities. To support this, assistance is provided to create template-based Web sites using available developmental tools.

Information Technology Services offers support for two development environments; Lotus Notes/Domino and traditional html. It is our policy however, to produce all departmental Web sites using Lotus Notes/Domino. Individuals who wish to have a Web presence, whether it is course related or professional, are free to use either Lotus Notes/Domino, html or a combination of both.

Web sites produced on Lotus Notes/Domino reside on two servers; CRONUS and ATHENA. You edit your files on CRONUS. They are automatically replicated to ATHENA within seconds. Traditional html files reside on our network file server. You edit these files by telneting or ftping to the Academic Research Computer (arc1.uwindsor.ca). These files are then accessed by another server, lipan or web2, and served onto the Web.
