Labour Studies Degree Completion Programs for Human Resource Careers

If you are just starting your college or university education, here’s an attractive option. In collaboration with the St. Clair College in Windsor, you can obtain a general or an Honours BA degree in combination with a 10 course CAAT Human Resource Studies Certificate. This can be done concurrently or sequentially. This degree completion program allows you to complete a general degree in 25 courses or an Honours degree in 35 courses as long as you also complete the 10 course CAAT certificate with a B- average.  The ten courses in this certificate are the courses required for CHRP certification.

What are the advantages of a Labour Studies Degree Completion program in combination with the St. Clair Human Resource Studies Certificate?

1) You get the University degree and the Human Resources courses you need for CHRP certification, all in one coordinated flexible package.

Many students graduate with a social science or business degree and then have to go back to college for a post graduate certificate to obtain the courses they need for CHRP certification. This usually means a full three or four years of university and a full additional year at College. With this degree completion program, you are reducing the time required by at least one full semester. Many students may be able to complete both the degree and the certificate in the same time period it would take to complete their university degree, since the St. Clair courses are available all year and in both regular and distance education formats.

2) You receive a fair and clearly defined credit exchange for your college courses:

Many university programs don’t offer as many credits for your college courses or they only provide credit exchanges on an individual basis. As long as you have at least a B- average, you are guaranteed admission on the terms outlined above.

3)  You gain a unique marketable knowledge base and skill set in combination with HR management training and certification:

It is hard to stand out in today’s labour market. There are plenty of business graduates but how many out there have the special education you get with this combination of a Business Certificate and a Labour Studies degree? Many employers hire social science and humanities university graduates because they see those graduates as having the critical thinking, creative and writing skills that are emphasized in these disciplines. With this interdisciplinary social science degree completion program, you not only have the advantage of building these critical skill sets, you are also deepening and broadening your understanding of the specific subject matter critical to human resources management – through courses on labour law, dispute resolution, occupational health and safety, employment equity, organizational theory, organizational psychology, and labour relations. Paired with core CHRP courses in the Human Resource Studies Certificate, you will have all the qualifications and the capacities you need to succeed in the field of Human Resources and Labour Relations.

4)  You get to focus on your interests in labour and management without having to take courses in mathematics, accounting or marketing:

Although there is an accounting course in the St. Clair certificate and a statistics course in the Honours Labour Studies program, you are not required to take any University level mathematics or accounting courses.  All your required courses are specific to the work and labour-management area and are directly relevant to human resources and labour relations.
